Our library is supported through Calhoun County and the city of Somers tax payers. Therefore, in order to obtain a library card, new patrons must prove that they are residents of either Somers and/or rural Calhoun County. Acceptable proof includes a driver’s license, student ID, or any official ID or piece of mail that lists the patron’s address.
Out-of-town and -county patrons whose home library participates in the Iowa Open Access Program are also eligible for a Somers Public Library card (with proper ID). For a list of participating libraries, visit the State Library’s website.
Any other prospective patron may obtain a library card for an annual fee of $10.
A parent's or guardian's signature is required for children under the age of 14 to receive a library card. A library card gives patrons access to the entire collection of the library, and it is the responsibility of parents and/or guardians to supervise the materials their children check out.
